 Replacing the air filter
 Many operators are not adequately aware of how the filter used to supply air to the sandblasting helmet works.
 Typically, a single cartridge with three stages of filtration is installed inside a small pressurized container:

 desiccant material , for absorbing moisture;

 filter paper or cotton , to retain oily aerosols;

 activated carbon , to absorb unpleasant odors and odorous contaminants.

 When one or more of these elements reach the saturation level, the cartridge is no longer able to perform its function correctly.
 It is not possible to establish a precise filter life or expiry date, as the conditions of use, the quality of the compressed air and the frequency of use can vary considerably.
 The filter cartridge must be checked weekly , or more frequently depending on the intensity of use and the conditions of the compressed air system on which the filter is installed.
 As a guide, the cartridge should be replaced after 3 months of use , calculated on a 40-hour working week.
 Replacement must be done immediately if any of the following conditions are present:

 appearance of odors or tastes in the air supplied to the respirator;

 presence of humidity at the outlet connections;

 high pressure drop across the filter.

 Important notice

 The breathing air filter does not remove carbon monoxide (CO) or toxic fumes .
 It is therefore necessary to use, together with the filter, specific alarm, monitoring or carbon monoxide abatement devices, suitable for the conditions of the system and the working environment.

 The breathing air filter is an essential safety device for the operator. Improper maintenance of respiratory protective equipment can cause serious injury or death.
